Tinder in-app match background checks feature. Online dating app tinder will soon allow its users to run a background check on their possible dates.

On March 15, 2021, Tinder’s partner company match group announced in a press release says that it has partnered with a background check platform Garbo to integrate the service into its platform. Tinder users will now check on their partners, regardless of their gender or sexuality.

This feature is being introduced keeping the protection of women and marginalized groups in mind “For too long women and marginalized groups in all corners of the world have faced many barriers to resource and safety” told Tracey Breeden, head of safety and social advocacy.

 If you are on tinder or planning to join the online dating app then here’s good news for you.  Tinder users will be able to look out the following about their matches-

  • Arrest record
  • Any violence history
  • The previous record of conviction
  • Violent crimes
  • Drug possession

But the report says that this feature on tinder will not be free. The company has not revealed the price of this feature is also expected that after the successful inclusion of the feature in tinder. The company might Introduce the background check feature in their other app like Ok-cupid, hinge, and match.          

However, the match group yet to finalize the price and all the details. The background check feature will undergo a trial run on Tinder in the coming month.

Cybersecurity researcher sourajeet majumde told The Quint takes a responsible step considering the fact that the number of crimes related to dating app is increasing in numbers. Majumder added “I believe the Background check feature will not be much effecting in countering catfishing issues. according to reports using Garbo you can find public records of crime related to your dates by providing the name and number but it is very easy for someone to make a fake account and provide wrong information and thus the Background check feature will fall if this is how the feature works

In January 2020, tinder added a panic button feature that would store information about a date, and alert emergency service if the button was pressed. Tinder also released a series of safety guidelines, citing user safety as a priority.
